Another Example of Conservative Hypocrisy
They violate drag performer's 1st amendment rights but don't you infringe on the 2nd amendment
In the last episode of the podcast, I made the argument that many conservative elected officials put party over people. They rant about "protecting the children" while remaining silent about the Epstein Files which is about a child sex trafficker and his crimes.
I was reminded after publishing that episode of an interview Jon Stewart did, a couple of years ago, on his show "The Problem with Jon Stewart" with former Oklahoma State Sen. Nathan Dahm.
The focus was gun laws and Dahm is an advocate of the 2nd amendment. Stewart, rightfully grills him about how lax gun laws don't make us safer.
At one point Stewart points out Dahm supports preventing children from attending drag show readings - "to protect the children..."?
“Are you infringing on that performer’s free speech?” Stewart asks.
“They can continue to exercise their free speech,” Dahm says. “Just not in front of a child.”
“Why?”
“Because the government does have a responsibility to protect —”
Stewart touches his ear, as if to say gotcha. “I’m sorry?”
“The government does have a responsibility, in certain instances, to protect children.”
“What’s the leading cause of death amongst children in this country?” Stewart asks. “I’m going to give you a hint: It’s not drag show readings.”
Stewart makes the argument that guns are the leading cause of death of children yet here is a conservative who makes laws banning drag show readings to "protect the children"
Like I said this hypocrisy is a feature not a bug in conservatives.
A clip of the interview can be found here. The point about drag show readings starts at 7:15
